Timeless Dress

I got this dress from Free People a few years back.  It is one of those purchases that I never get tired of.  It extremely versatile.  Here, I am wearing a Free People bralette and skirt slip underneath.  I belted it with a vintage belt and added one of my favorite pairs of heels-- purchased from DSW last year .   My necklaces are Vanessa Mooney and vintage.

The great thing about this dress is that I can unbutton it and wear it as a kimono top, put maxi dresses underneath, dress it down with flat sandals and a hat.. the options are endless.  Gotta love a purchase that you wear for years and never get tired of.

Vintage Handmade

This outfit is completely handmade from vintage items.  I wish I could say this about every outfit I wear.  The shorts I made from some grandma pants from the thrift store.   The top I also found at the thrift store.  It was short sleeve and I just cut it to be a racer back crop top.  The necklace is vintage and the other necklace was handmade by my friend Elizabeth Kemp to help fund her mission trip to Africa.     To make the look a little more polished I put a navy vest over-- also vintage.

Hope everyone is having a good week!!

Work Wear

Here is a little bit different take on work wear.  I am crazy about pencil skirts and midi length skirts right now!  I have so many on my wish list for this Fall.  I don't work in a place where it's appropriate to look professional.   If you aren't careful, midi skirts can look dressy- which is fine, if that's what you are going for.  I have been dressing mine down with graphic tees.  This would be appropriate for office wear too if you put some sort of jacket over.

Mix and Match

This is a nice little mix of patterns.  I love taking a more subtle graphic tee and mixing it with a patterned bottom.  I have been obsessed with wearing scarves in my hair this summer- this is a vintage scarf just rolled to look like a headband.   The top is from Libby Story, the shoes from Urban Outfitters, the skirt is vintage.

Who will you be?

This quote describes it perfectly.  Sometimes you just get this idea in your head and nothing else will do.  Who will you be today?

Mississippi Summer

I have been wearing scarves in my hair so much this summer. It gets so hot in Mississippi wearing your  hair down in the summer is almost impossible. Scarves are a good way to make a hair updo look fun... they also make you look like you put a little more time into your look-- even if you really didn't.   This top is from Libby Story and the jeans are some old lady pants from the thrift store.  Scarf in my hair is vintage too.

BOLO.

Bolo ties are so quirky and fun.  I have collected a few vintage ones that I am really fond of.  My favorite way to wear them is like this-- pulled all the way up.  I do like wearing them pulled down too with slouchy t shirts.  Top features another AMAZING print by Mink Pink- no surprise there.

Quirky trends are fun to try and they are guaranteed to make you feel unique!

Until tomorrow,

Mississippi Mud

SO.. I am finally getting around to wearing my new military vest! This is an army jacket from the thrift store that I ripped the sleeves off of.  I mentioned it in a previous post-- I got the patches for my DIY military tank from the sleeves of this jacket.    I love that this vest if really over sized and toughens up anything I put with it.  I will definitely be wearing it with really girly pieces, like lace dresses.

Happy Friday!!!! Our engagement pictures are this Saturday so I EXTRA pumped about this particular weekend!  I'll post some sneak peeks at the end of the weekend!

Thrift Store Finds

I usually go to the thrift store once a week.  It's important to go on a regular basis to make sure you don't miss any of the good stuff! Here are a few of the treasures that I found today.

These large plates were 75 cents a piece.  I love them and I'm 99.9% sure Adam will love them too(can't ever be positive).  Anything tribal and I'm usually pretty much in.  These will go in our new house.

I am planning on cutting both of these little plaid tops into crop tops.  They have buttons all the way down the back and were $2.  Will be wearing these this summer with high waisted shorts and high waisted skinnies.

This floral vest caught my eye.  I am planning to take the sleeves off and wear it as a long vest with shorts this summer.  I will post a DIY when I find the time to get this done.

I am a total sucker for a vintage belt.  THE STRIPE ONE IS FANTASTIC! I like the other one too.. I can't wait to wear these.  Belts are a great way to incorporate vintage into your wardrobe.  A patterned one can make an outfit so much more interesting.

I found lots of good high waisted jeans/shorts to cut off.  I only have one pair of cutoffs that fit so I needed to get some.  I pretty much live in these in summer.  I will post some before and afters of these soon.  I also got just a plain wooden frame.  I needed one more for the chalkboard cluster I am making for the new house.  Details to come on that too!

The candle holders, books, and white bowl are things I am collecting for our wedding next year.  The colors of the books were perfect!!!! I need to find more white ones, though.  That's my goal for the next thrift trip.

I am excited about this plate.  I certainly had to wash it... but it's worth it! I am going to add it to my collection for the dining room wall in the new house.  Now I have to find some plate holders.

I found some overalls!! They are extremely hard to find around here.  I will post some pictures of how they turn out.  I am going to alter them in some way-- probably involving bleach.

I thought I would share some other items I have collected for the wedding thus far (these are all vintage/thrifted items):

Vintage hankies, piles of doilies, LOTS of vintage lace, teacups and saucers, bronze candleholders and goblets and tons of books-- I can't wait to see how it all comes together!
